Letter – Kutzler 10-18-24

To the Editor:

Trust me, if it sounds too good to be true, it is. I am writing after watching the constant airing of the support RL 21 TV ad.

It is unreal what they are telling us it will accomplish. I am a lifelong South Dakota farmer, and I am voting NO! No one is paying me to vote that way or to write this letter. I am not against ethanol, which fuels my car. This carbon (CO2) pipeline is wrong.

The out-of-state companies have wealthy investors, some may be foreign. China was mentioned, but that left the news fast.

No out-of-state companies need to take our tax dollars to build something that is not necessary. New technology has been developed that can collect the CO2 at the plant and turn it into useful fuel. Other technologies are being developed. There is no need to disturb thousands of acres of South Dakota farmland and force families to participate through eminent domain.

My family farm was purchased in 1916 by Fred Kutzler. My sixth-generation great-grandchildren now walk this land. We raise livestock on this home quarter. We are told the pipeline will never leak. If it ruptures there will be a plume of carbon dioxide that will impact livestock, my family and anyone nearby. We hear about pipelines leaking every day. RL 21 takes away all power of the county, the township and the city to have any control. Do we want this to happen in rural South Dakota?

The pipeline route goes through the heart of our home quarter. Our rotational grazing system will be disrupted. It will affect our livelihood. Many South Dakota families will be impacted.

Our family, unlike others who accepted a big check, cannot be bought. Please vote NO on RL 21!
