Weekend volleyball action

With the end of the regular season in the windshield, Heartland volleyball teams hosted tournaments this past weekend.

Redfield Tournament
REDFIELD The Warner Monarchs took home the top prize Saturday in the Redfield Invitational Volleyball Tournament, as they didnt drop a set in either pool play, or the championship match.

In Pool B, Warner downed Florence-Henry 25-9 and 25-10, then dispatched Timber Lake 25-11 and 25-6, before downing Potter County, the Pool A winner, 25-10, 25-11 and 25-8 to claim the title.

In Pool A, the Redfield Pheasants defeated Aberdeen Christian 21-25, 25-11 and 25-19, before falling to Potter County, 25-17, 22-25 and 25-27.

As the runners-up in Pool A, Redfield faced Florence-Henry in the final round, defeating the Falcons 25-22, 25-20, 25-19.

The Pheasants, now 5-17 on the season, travel to Groton Area on Friday.

Miller Invitational
MILLER The Miller Rustlers, ranked No. 3 in Class A volleyball circles, didnt drop a set in three matches Saturday, romping to the championship in the Miller Invitational, held at the Miller Armory.

Miller opened the tournament with a 25-8, 25-4 pounding of Dupree, as Aleah Schlechter, Paige Werdel and Kaihlyn Anderburg each collected five kills. Werdel also had six aces, and Jolie Palmer had four aces and Olivia Resel handed out 14 assists in the match.

In the second match, Miller defeated Hot Springs, 25-16 and 25-17.

Palmer had three aces and led the team with 12 digs in the match. Werdel had eight kills, two assisted blocks and two aces while Kate Lichty had six kills. Resel had 16 assists.

In the title match, Miller downed Aberdeen Roncalli, 25-17 and 25-19.

Paige Werdel had five kills, Gracen Werdel laced three aces and Palmer accounted for nine digs, as Resel shared 11 assists in the match.

Miller, now 23-1 on the season, hosts Wolsey-Wessington tonight at the Miller Armory.
