HURON With cracks deep enough that tripping hazards could come into play, the lot on the West side of Splash Central needed some work done. The Huron City Commission on Monday evening approved a plan to utilize reserve funds to repair the parking lot in the amount of $4,500 through unanimous vote of the commission.
Parks & Recreation Director Chad Schroder explained that a full bid from a private company was received to do the work that was more than $21,000, but street supervisor Bob Simpson arranged a deal with the state highway department to do some in-kind work in exchange for use of the states equipment to do the job. This left the city to pay for supplies and the staffing to do the work for a fraction of the cost of the quote.
Commissioner Drew Weinreis reminded the public that the citys trunk or treat would be this coming Sunday, Oct. 27, from 5-7 p.m. on Dakota Avenue. The street will be closed due to ongoing sidewalk construction.
The commission reviewed a plat filed by Lois Fullerton to separate current residential land from a second parcel. The second parcel is 6.92 acres, meeting the five-acre minimum. This was approved.
The commission approved new street lights at Lampe Court at the entrance and center of the cul-de-sac and also on the 7th St. alley between Ohio and Nebraska Avenues.
