HURON The Wessington Springs Lady Spartans downed the James Valley Christian Lady Vikings in straight sets – 25-20, 25-9, 25-22 – Tuesday night in 281 Conference volleyball at the JVC Gym.
Ashlyn Weber led the Spartans with 12 kills and added a pair of aces, while Kendall Kolousek had nine kills and four aces.
Kaitlyn Braun had eight kills and Logan Mohling handed out 30 set assists in the match.
JVC was led by Ella Anderson and Nave Gross, each with four kills, while Kaitlyn Stahl had an ace serve and led the defense with 40 digs.
Wessington Springs improves to 14-12 and will host Kimball/White Lake on Friday, while JVC falls to 2-14. The Lady Vikes travel to Andes Central/Dakota Christian on Tuesday.
Wolsey-Wessington 3, Sunshine Bible Academy 0
WOLSEY The Wolsey-Wessington Lady Warbirds pushed their season record to 20-7 Tuesday night, with a 25-10, 25-12, 25-8 win over the Sunshine Bible Academy Crusaders in 281 Conference volleyball action.
Samara Clemente had 11 kills and two blocks for the Lady Birds, who got 19 assists and two aces from Kendall Uttecht.
Shae Uttecht added four aces and led the defense with nine digs.
SBA, which remains winless at 0-23, got three kills form Soleil Mickelson and two each from Dakota Boersma and Ciera Mickelson. Soleil Mickelson added two blocks.
Wolsey-Wessington hosts Redfield on Monday, while the Crusaders host Leola/Frederick, also on Monday.
Estelline-Hendricks 3, Iroquois-Lake Preston 0
LAKE PRESTON The Estelline-Hendricks Redhawks took a 3-0 win over the Iroquois/Lake Preston Sharks Tuesday night, in non-conference volleyball action.
Set scores for E-H were 25-21, 25-23 and 25-16.
Brooke Johnson had nine kills and 13 digs for the Redhawks, which improves to 12-11 with the win. Allie Duenwald had 38 digs to lead the defens and Presly Buny had seven kills and three aces.
The Shaks were led by Brityn Davies five kills, while both Hadlee Hold and Amelia Holland four kills. Davies had 22 set assists and Trinity Pirlet had 33 digs.
I/LP, now 6-21, travels to Rutland on Tuesday to battle Oldham-Ramona-Rutland.
Hitchcock-Tulare 3, Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 0
FORESTBURG The Hitchcock-Tulare Lady Patriots, ranked No. 4 in Class B volleyball in South Dakota, dispatched the Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Blackhawks 3-0 Tuesday night in 281 Conference action.
Katelyn Schroeder had 14 kills and added nine digs for the Lady Pats, who improve to 25-2 with the win. Lila Johnson, Ella Johnson and Gracyn Bixler each had two aces and Lila Johnson had 19 assists while Bixler handed out 11 digs and Cambree Hoekman led the defense with 24 digs.
SC/W got 10 kills and two blocks form Liz Boschee, while Kaylie Robinson had seven kills and a block. Addi Bartholow had three aces and eight digs, while Kenzie Schley and Kali Hofer had 12 and 10 assists, respectively.
The Blackhawks, now 16-8, travels to Bridgewater=Emery on Friday, while H-T hosts Sully Buttes in Tulare, also on Friday.
Clark/Willow Lake 3, Tiospa Zina 0
CLARK The Clark/Willow Lake Cyclones had no problem with the Tiospa Zina Wambdi Tuesday night, taking a straight sets, 25-9, 25-6, 25-15 win in non-conference volleyball action.
Shay Michalski had five kills and Hannah Heiman added four to pace the Cyclones to the win. Avery Lee had an incredible eight service aces and added three digs in the match. Sami Brenden had 12 digs for C/WL.
No stats were available for Tiospa Zina, which saw its record fall to 7-21.
The Cyclones, now 16-6, host Britton-Hecla on Friday in Clark.
Highmore-Harrold 3, Crow Creek 0
HIGHMORE The Highmore-Harrold Pirates claimed three-set sweep of the Crow Creek Lady Chieftans Monday in Highmore.
Set scores for the Pirates were 25-11, 25-12, and 25-9. Both teams move to 9-15 on the season.
The Pirates were led by Addison McDonnel with six service aces on 17 of 20 serving along with seven kills on 18 of 19 hitting. Jada Baloun led the H-H attack with 14 kills on 24 of 28 hitting.
Callie Chavez had two aces for the Pirates on 13 of 14 serving.
Brooklyn Baloun set up the home teams offense with 15 assists on 42 of 42 setting. She also had six digs to tie with Morgan McCloud for the team lead.
No individual statistics were available for Crow Creek.
The Pirates traveled to Lyman Tuesday and will host Stanley County Friday for senior night.
Miller 3 , Wolsey-Wessington 2
MILLER A matchup of two Heartland volleyball programs who have each been to the previous two state tournaments at their respective levels lived up to the billing as the visiting Wolsey-Wessington Lady Warbirds jumped out with the first two sets before the Class A fourth-ranked Miller Rustlers battled back before claiming a five-set victory Monday at the Miller Armory.
Set scores for the Rustlers were 25-27, 27-29, 25-19, 25-23, and 15-5.
The Rustlers move their win streak to 19 and their overall record to 25-1. This is the Rustlers second win over Wolsey-Wessington, who has three of the six set victories against Miller during that long streak.
Miller was led by Paige Werdel with 17 kills on 41 of 51 hitting. Olivia Resel had 42 assists, 16 digs, and also had two aces on 20 of 21 serving.
Kate Lichty landed two aces on 17 of 20 serving. Aleah Schlechter had 14 kills on 34 of 41 hitting along with three blocks and an ace on 18 of 19 serving.
Jolie Palmer had 36 digs and an ace on 18 of 19 serving.
The Lady Warbirds were led on the attack by Samara Clemente with 14 kills on 36 of 40 hitting and Roxy Glanzer with 12 kills on 35 of 37 hitting. Tatum Luce had eight kills on 19 of 22 hitting and also had three blocks. Timber Haeder led W-W with four blocks.
Kendal Uttecht was 19 of 19 serving with an ace and also had 38 assists on the night. Shae Uttecht had 32 digs and also was 16 of 16 serving with one ace.
After hosting Sunshine Bible Academy Tuesday, the Lady Warbirds are off until Monday, when they host Redfield. Miller will travel to Ethan on Friday.
