JVC boys take fourth, girls take seventh at Class B State Meet

RAPID CITY The James Valley Christian Lady Vikings cross country team took seventh at the Class B State Cross Country meet on Saturday at Hart Ranch Camping Resort in Rapid City while the boys took fourth as a team.

Kimball/White Lake had four All-State runners and two finishers in the top five to bring home the team title with 22 team points. Ipswich, Northwestern, and Warner came in second, third, and fourth respectively, with just two points separating the three teams. Ipswich had 42, Northwestern had 43, and Warner had 44.

Lemmon rounded out the top five with 62 points, edging Chester with 63. James Valley Christian came in seventh with 70 team points.

De Smet tallied 148 team points to place 17th.

Northwesterns Ella Boekelheide was the only runner to finish in under 20 minutes, crossing the line at 19:07.6 to win. Madisyn Gellhaus of Ipswich placed second at 20:13.2 and Emmerson Eppard of Chester came in third at 20:22.8.

Alli McCord and Lily Baker of Kimball/White Lake finished fourth and fifth. McCord broke the line in 20:24.4 and Baker recorded a time of 20:35.8.

Hadasah Olson was the top finisher for the Lady Vikings, coming in ninth with a time of 20:50.3. Teammate Daril Frandsen placed 14th in 21:10.8.

The top 25 finishers in the state earn All-State honors. Kendal Uttecht of Wolsey-Wessington finished 15th at 21:13.9 and Autumn Fallis of Highmore-Harrold placed 24th in 21:27.7.

Philip defended their 2023 team title in a tight race against Mitchell Christian. Philip finished with 12 team points, with five runners in the top 10. Mitchell Christian place three runners in the top 13 to finish with 17 team points.

North Central took third with 48 team points. JVC recorded 65 team points for fourth place, edging out Dupree, who scored 66 in fifth place.

Highmore-Harrold placed 11th as a team with 120 points.

Finley McConniel of Freeman Academy/Marion won the individual race in 16:45.97. Silas Holdeman of Mitchell Christian was right on his tail, finishing second in 16:46.00.

Jack Peterson of Phillip placed third in 17:03.50, with Luke Mentele of Mitchell Christian coming in fourth at 17:17.39 and Baylor Burns of Philip finishing in 17:19.71 to place fifth.

Kaden Ober and Dax Frandsen were the first two local runners, finishing 21st and 22nd in 17:57.57 and 18:10.86, respectively, for JVC.

Brooks McPeak of Highmore-Harrold also earned All-State honors, finishing 23rd in 18:10.98.
