RAPID CITY The Wolsey-Wessington won the small group cheer team title and finished second overall in cheer in the Class A State Cheer and Dance Competition Friday at Summit Arena at The Monument in Rapid City.
The Warbirds scored 250.5 to edge Parkston, who scored 249.5, for the small group cheer competition. Wolsey-Wessington finished second to Sioux Valley, who scored 267 in the large group cheer competition, in the grand champion cheer competition for Class A.
It was the eighteenth straight state championship for Sioux Valley.
The Iroquois/Lake Preston Sharks finished sixth in small group cheer and 12th overall with a score of 194.5.
Dakota Valley took home their 15th straight grand champion team title in dance, with a score of 291.75.
Tatum Luce of Wolsey-Wessington was selected as All-State in cheer.
On Saturday, the Class AA competition took place in Summit Arena.
Harrisburg won the cheer title and nearly took home the grand champion dance team award as well. In the cheer competition, Harrisburg scored 292 points. Sioux Falls Jefferson finished second with 285.5 points.
Huron placed 19th in cheer with 193 points.
Harrisburg won the hip hop competition, while Brandon Valley won the jazz and pom competitions, leading to the Lynx taking the grand champion dance title with 292.5 points to Harrisburgs 289 points.
Huron placed 18th with 221 points, scoring 217 in jazz and 225 in jazz.
Jillian Reno of Huron was selected for All-State in dance.
