HURON Winning teams and two longtime were recognized Saturday night, at the awards banquet portion of the Ringneck Festival.
Presented by the Huron Chamber and Visitors Bureau, with the cooperation of numerous landowners and a small army of volunteers, this was the 27th annual Ringneck Festival.
The winning team in the competitive hunt, which took place Saturday at various plots of land around Huron, was the aptly titled Straight Shooters.
Made up of Lance Reilly of Wolsey, Shane Sppner and Joe Herr of Clark, Shane Spooner from Watertown, Eric McNames of Pierre and Riley Dalzell of Bison, the team harvested its limit of 18 birds and had four of its 24 issued shells remaining.
Straight Shooters hunted land on the Mason Ranch.
The second place team was Who Let the Dogs Out? and also had 18 birds, but had two shells remaining after hunting on the Benny Boetel property.
Third place went to Team Cuttem, hunting on Danny Hofers land. Team Cuttem had 18 birds and one shell left, while Salt Creek had 18 birds and were out of ammo.
During the awards ceremony, two longtime committee members were inducted into the RLBs Ringneck Festival Hall of Fame.
Paula Mom, who has been on the festival organizing committee for several years, and Dan Krugman, team captain of The Cock Blockers, which has competed for several years, and a committee member as well, were both recognized for their support of this unique festival.
On Thursday and Friday the Ringneck Festivals Bird Dog Challenge took place.
The winning team in this years Bird Dog Challenge was Jared Finnegan and Joe Englehart.
The duo, hunting with four-legged team member Lucy ended with a time of 3:40 and a score of 2850.
Second place, in a time of 5:25 and a score of 2625, was Jeremy Coon and Kent Shelton, hunting with Kane, while Brandon Goergen and Marc Fenske, with Roma scored 2603 and had a time of 5:47.
