Heinz earns All-ESD honor for Tigers

BRANDON Huron High School libero Hylton Heinz was the lone Tiger named to the All-Eastern Dakota Conference first team, which was released Friday morning.

Heinz, a 5-foot, 8-inch junior, led the Huron defense this year with 459 total digs on the season, helping the team to a record of 8-14 headed into next weeks SoDak 16 game. She had a season high 49 digs in a five-set match at Rapid City Stevens in October, to tie the one-game school record, and had 29 ace serves during the season.

ESD champion Harrisburg saw four players included; seniors Karalynn Leach and Maggie Meister, junior Gabi Zachariasen and freshman Josalyn Samuels.

Watertown had three players, all seniors, in Grace Corey, Madisyn Grimsrud and Emery Thury. Aberdeen Central saw sophomores Lauryn Burckhard and Alivia Miller, while Brandon Valleys junior duo of Abby Gruber and Javaunna Stroh earned recognition.

Thury, Zachariasen, Stoh, Meister and Samuels are all repeat selections to the squad that is selected by the conferences coaches. It is Zachariasens third straight selection.
