Parade of Lights set for Nov. 29

HURON The 2024 Parade of Lights will take place beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29, in Huron, but with a couple changes.

The theme for this year is Christmas at the North Pole, and this years Parade of Lights will follow a different route, due to the construction on Dakota Avenue downtown.

This years parade will start at the corner of Market Street and Lincoln Avenue, headed south, and will continue to Third Street and will turn left through the S.D. State Fairgrounds. The route will then take the parade east to Nevada Ave., before turning north and proceeding to Gate 4 on the northeast corner of the fairgrounds.

The intention of the Parade of Lights committee is to have the 2025 Parade of Lights return to a new and rebuilt Dakota Avenue.

Entry forms for the parade are available online at huronsd.com/pol or at the Chamber. Cost is $10/entry until Nov. 15, then it is $15/entry. Heights of floats have a maximum of 17 feet due to route height restrictions.

There is also a tree lighting ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 30, at 10 a.m. in Veterans Park. The winners of the parade will be announced along with the theme for the 2025 parade. Light refreshments and treats will be available as the committee kicks off the Christmas season.
