Huron gymnasts compete in Pierre

PIERRE Mitchell, which had the top gymnast in the all-around, edged Harrisburg for the team title during the Pierre Invite on Saturday.

The Kernels had a winning total of 148.200, while Harrisburg finished at 148.100.

Rounding out the top five were Watertown at 136.325, Brookings at 133.750 and Sioux Falls Lincoln at 131.900.

Huron finished 10th at 115.300.

This was our third meet of the week and the girls continue to work hard, Huron coach Julie King said.

Ellie Puterbaugh and Maiya Hein had scores of 8.450 to share spot No. 29 for the Tigers on the vault.

We had some strong vaults from Ellie Puterbaugh and Maiya Hein, King said. Maria Wilson and Ellie had good beam routines.

Wilson finished in a tie for 24th with a score of 7.750 on the beam, while Puterbaugh was 27th at 7.625.

Hein led Huron on the bars with a 7.400 to finish tied for 39th.

Puterbaugh turned in a 7.925 to finish 41st for the Tigers in the floor exercise. Hein had a score of 7.550, while Alivia Cunard had a 7.400 and Tahtiana Capers had a 6.875.

Floor is continuing to improve as well as our other three areas, King said.

Huron is now off until the Hub City Invite on Saturday in Aberdeen.
