HURON As part of Mondays Huron City Commission meeting, the Solid Waste Department and City of Huron announced their respective Christmas schedules. Both will close as of noon on Tues., Dec. 24, and will be closed all day on Wed., Dec. 25, reopening on Thurs., Wed., Dec. 26.
The meeting opened with Mayor Mark Robish recognizing seven fifth graders from Washington 4-5 Center for an act of kindness. Five of the seven were present at the meeting as the mayor read a proclamation of recognition.
Assistant city engineer Dennis Bennett presented four pay requests that were all approved. The first was for $51,243.95 to Lot Pros Inc. for crack sealing. The second was to Midland Contracting Inc. for $115,748.99 for 4th St. reconstruction. Bennett noted that the 4th St. project is roughly two-thirds complete, with the primary work remaining adding blacktop to the road from the 3rd St. bridge to Custer Ave.
The third pay request was from HK Solutions Group for sewer main lining in the amount of $198,782.82. The final pay request approved was for $229,544.20 to BX Civil & Construction Inc. for work on Dakota Ave.
The commission approved a request from Fire Chief Ron Hines to apply for two thermal imaging cameras through the 2024 FEMA AFG Grant Program. The cameras will cost $9,900 apiece, which means the citys matching cost, if approved, would be $990.

Approved the hire of Michael Schmieder for the Park Maintenance 1 position.
Approved full-time status for Daniel Copeland, Solid Waste Maintenance I, for completing his 1040-hour probationary period.
Approved the second reading of ordinance 2265-16-95 regarding the snow emergency route.
Approved the joint cooperative agreement with Northeast Council of Governments for 2025.
Approved the 2025 golf manager contract with Ben Dragt.
The commission adjourned the regular meeting and concluded the evening with two executive sessions.
