HURON The Beadle County Commission heard an extended report from highway superintendent Jason Fritzsche on Tuesday morning, including a request to purchase two new pieces of equipment for the department. The commission approved the purchase of a new John Deere tractor through Kibble Equipment on order for 2025 and a new pickup from Iverson Auto for $49,775.
Fritzsche also presented a change order and pay request from Midwest Contracting for bridge work that has been completed and reviewed the 2025 RAIF program applications as well as a payment to Foster Township for the RAIF work that was completed in 2024.
The gravel bid date was set for Dec. 17 at 9 a.m. and the culvert bid was set for Jan. 7.
Fritzsche also reviewed the urban boundary changes with the commission as proposed after the 2020 census. The move of the Vantage Business Park into Huron city limits brought a discussion on snow removal and repair responsibility of Custer Ave. The consensus between Fritzsche and the Commission was to have a discussion with representatives from the city after the new year.
Representatives from Beadle County drug court presented to the commission regarding funds from the states share of the federal opioid settlement. Drug court would like to utilize the funds to hire a part-time peer support specialist to continue support for those in the program and after theyve graduated. This was approved.
Dave Jensen, Emergency Management Director, discussed an emergency management training offered for elected representatives. The commission set Jan. 24 as the date to do the training.
The commission approved the hire of Crystal Anderson as Juvenile Magistrate Court Witness Coordinator, starting Dec. 16.
The tax land sale date for one parcel available was set for Dec. 31 at 9 a.m. before the regular commission meeting.
