WOONSOCKET Sanborn Central/Woonsocket connected on 11 three-pointers en route to a 71-26 victory against Sunshine Bible Academy in the season opener for both teams on Saturday.

The Blackhawks led 47-16 at the half and carried a 65-22 lead into the final quarter.

Sam Baruth had five 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 20 points for Sanborn Central/Woonsocket. McCoy Schultz also reached double figures with 15 points, while Evan Easton and Landon Jensen had seven and six points, respectively.

Baruth helped the Blackhawks to a 40-29 advantage on the boards with eight rebounds. Payton Uecker had two assists and Schultz finished with five steals.

Trey Thieman and Jerome Big Eagle each had 10 points and seven rebounds for Sunshine Bible Academy.

Both teams return to action Tuesday. Sanborn Central/Woonsocket will play Hitchcock-Tulare in Hitchcock, while Sunshine Bible Academy hosts Faulkton Area.

CLARK The Clark/Willow Lake Cyclones scored an upset Saturday, defeating the Sioux Valley Cossacks 46-42 in Clark in the season opener for both teams.

The Cyclone defense shut out the Cossacks in the second quarter to build a 24-8 lead at half and held on for the victory. Sully Felberg led the way with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Bo Begeman added 12 points for the Cyclones.

The Cossacks, who were receiving votes in the opening poll of the season, were led by Maverick Nelson with 25 points and seven rebounds.

Clark/Willow Lake travels to De Smet Tuesday.

IPSWICH Ipswich Tigers used a 24-5 burst in the third quarter to secure a 53-38 victory over the Hitchcock-Tulare Patriots on Saturday in Ipswich in the season opener for both teams.

The Tigers move to 1-0 behind 16 points from Tucker Kadlec and Jaxon Holt. Max Kulesa added in 13.

The Patriots (0-1) were led by Devin Enander with 22 points and eight rebounds.

Hitchcock-Tulare hosts Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Tuesday in regular-season 281 Conference action.

DE SMET Grant Wilkinson had a dominant performance for the De Smet Bulldogs, scoring 24 points and hauling in 27 rebounds as the Bulldogs defeated the Deubrook Area 53-38 on Friday as De Smet renamed their home court as Marv McCune Court.

Wilkinsons performance led to a new single-game rebound record for the Bulldogs, breaking his brother Damon Wilkinsons record of 25, set in 2023. Noah Luethmers added 10 points for De Smet.

The Dolphins (0-1) were led by Isaac Gass with 13 points and Chance Schoenfeld with 11 rebounds.

The Bulldogs will host Clark/Willow Lake on Tuesday.

WOONSOCKET Three players reached double figures as Sanborn Central/Woonsocket, which was ranked third in the Class B preseason rankings, opened the season with a 64-6 victory against Sunshine Bible Academy on Saturday.

Alexa Goertz had 19 points, including her 1,000th career points to lead the Lady Blackhawks to the win. Kaylie Robinson and Liz Boschee added 12 points each.

Goertz also had five rebounds for Sanborn Central/Woonsocket. Kali Hofer, Robinson and Addy Baruth each had three assists, while Boschee had six steals.

Abby Hinman had three of the six points for the Crusaders. Ciera Mickelson snagged eight rebounds, had three steals and an assist.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket battles Hitchcock-Tulare in Hitchcock on Tuesday. SBA hosts Faulkton Area on Tuesday.

IPSWICH The Hitchcock/Tulare Lady Patriots went on the road Saturday and secured a 39-25 victory over the Ipswich Tigers in Ipswich in their first contest of the season.

Rebecca Huizenga led the Lady Patriots with a game-high 11 points as both teams struggled shooting from the floor. Katelyn Schroeder had seven points and four assists to lead Hitchcock/Tulare.

Ipswich (1-1) was led by Marley Guthmiller and Anna Nierman with eight points apiece. Guthmiller snagged nine rebounds.

Hitchcock/Tulare will host Sanborn Central/Woonsocket on Tuesday.

HIGHMORE Highmore-Harrold held on for a 33-24 victory against Jones County on Saturday.

The Pirates used a 15-4 run in the second quarter to build a 27-12 lead at the half. Despite going scoreless through the third quarter, they yielded only five points to carry at 27-17 advantage into the final quarter.

Jada Baloun was the lone player to reach double figures for Highmore-Harrold, which is 1-0, with 11 points. Autumn Fallis and Addison McDonnell each had eight points, while Elle Stagg added six points.

McDonnell grabbed 10 rebounds for the Pirates. Fallis had four assists and two steals.

No statistics were available for Jones County.

Highmore-Harrold will host James Valley Christian on Tuesday.
