Dr. Paul and Carol Hohm scholarships announced

Through the generosity of a family with a legacy of service to local health care, five young individuals are now pursuing degrees in high-need health care career areas.

A total of $30,000 was recently awarded from the Dr. Paul & Carol Hohm Scholarship Endowment and the Dr. Paul and Carol Hohm Healthcare Fund at the South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF).

The endowment, which was established with the HRMC Foundation in 2006, honors the late Dr. Paul Hohm and his wife, Carol. It was designed to ensure that our area has highly trained medical professionals to meet the needs of our community.

This year, Kennadie Ochsner and Cooper Goldammer, who are pursuing degrees in licensed practical nursing at Mitchel Technical College; Shealay Smith, who is pursuing licensed practical nursing at Lake Area Technical College; and Whitney Haake, who is pursuing registered nursing at Southeast Technical College at Southeast Technical College, have been awarded scholarships from this fund.

The Dr. Paul and Carol Hohm Healthcare Fund was established at SDCF in 2018 by their daughter, Marilyn Hoyt, and sons, Dr. Robert Hohm and Dr. Richard Hohm.

Karter Miller, who is enrolling in the Radiologic Technology program at Lake Area Tehnical College, has received the 2024 scholarship award.

HRMC Foundation scholarship applications are accepted each year from January 1 until March 15. Contact Levi Kary, executive director of the HRMC Foundation, at 605-353-6319 to learn how your gift can support local health care students.
