HU Foundation awards nursing scholarship

The Huron University Foundation (HUF), in conjunction with Huron Regional Medical Center Foundation (HRMC Foundation), is pleased to announce KhuKle Shee as the recipient of scholarship funds, which will support her in her pursuit of a nursing career locally.

Shee is an LPN student in the Southeast Technical College (SETC) Licensed Practical Nursing program at Huron Community Campus. In return for the $8,000 scholarship, Khu Klee has agreed to work in Huron for at least three years after earning her degree.

Shee is currently employed as a phlebotomist in the laboratory department at HRMC.

She began work as an aide in the cafeteria at HRMC while in high school, which spurred her interest in health care.

The HUF board of trustees has made dollars available to students enrolled in the two SETC nursing programs for over five years. The Huron University Foundation realizes the importance of health care in our community said David Wheeler, HUF Chairman.

Since the inception of the LPN to RN program in 2018, HUF has awarded a total of $32,000 in scholarship funds. This support was later expanded to include the addition of the LPN program.

Scholarships open each year on Jan. 1 and close on March 15. If you or your organization would like to learn more about how to support the Healthy Huron scholarship program, contact Levi Kary at the HRMC Foundation at 605-353-6319.

The Huron University Foundation supports the legacy of Huron College/Huron University and is responsible for the stipends of the Huron Community Campus university professors, which under the South Dakota Board of Regents policy make possible $40 per credit hour tuition for HCC students.

The HU Foundation funds are held and managed by the South Dakota Community Foundation. Funds held by the SDCF mean there will be a source of educational funding in perpetuity that will be made available in the community.
