To the Editor:
Dear legislator,
You should recognize me. Im in the store when you shop. Im filling my car when you are. I wave at you as you drive by. I live in your neighborhood. My name is Owner-Occupied Taxpayer.
Im in over 400,000 households statewide.
Sixty-five thousand of them are comprised of folks aged 65 or older. Many of us are retired, elderly, and living on fixed incomes like several in your family may be. Weve seen the assessed property valuations soar the last few years. Statewide, increases have averaged over 58%. Weve felt the deep bite of property tax increases that followed.
We heard you campaign about property tax relief. Was that public service or lip service? Will you follow through when you reach Pierre? Or, will we get another Greatest Tax Cut in South Dakota History like the reduction in sales tax from 4.5% to 4.2%. Yeah, that saved me a WHOPPING 3 cents for every $10 spent.
Owner-Occupied taxpayers deserve a timely and meaningful relief measure.
Reset our assessed valuations back to 2021.
Impose an assessment limit capping increases to 5% per year.
Tax Relief for Property Owners is a newly formed statewide grassroots group of owner-occupied property taxpayers that are asking you for a meaningful legislative relief measure.
Go to our Facebook page – Tax Relief for Property Owners. Look at our request. Its reasonable, meaningful, and helpful.
Yes, I joined Tax Relief for Property Owners. I got BRAVE.. I joined!
Now…YOU be brave!! Help us get help!!
