HURON Members of the Huron Taco Johns received awards as part of a competition held recently among members of the Pentex Restaurant Group.
The taco challenge competition involves making six crispy tacos, complete with standard toppings. Contestants are timed for completion and wrapping of all six tacos, then time is deducted for broken shells, messy tacos, incorrect wrapping, or being outside the standard weight range.
Hurons Ashley Jenson won the Golden Spatula trophy for having the fastest time of all participants, but not only did she win, she shattered the previous record, completing the competition in just 37. On top of the attractive trophy, Jenson also received $500 for winning the competition.
The three fastest times for each store were combined for the fastest time, and Jenson, Darrien Martin, and Katlyn Skinner, who finished third and won $300, outpaced their competition and won $500 toward their employee holiday party.
Jenson was excited to talk about the competition.
Last year, I was in the competition, and I finished in 51.19 seconds, which got me third place and $300, she recalled. I also got an additional $50 for finishing in under one minute.
She continued, Last year, I had two that were off weight and, I think, one that was broken. This year, I didnt break any and all of my weights were perfect, and I finished in 37.34 seconds.
She flashed a big smile, The 37.34 seconds wasnt just the winning time, but my time was the best in Pentex history, so now Im the record holder!
Jenson credits the strong performance of the Huron restaurant to the atmosphere in the restaurant, set by Kelli Salter, general manager of the Huron location.
We want everybody to have the same cooking styles and Kelli works with us to make that a focus, she explained. Consistency is a big focus for us.
She says the environment of their store allows for the team to excel overall.
If youre having fun at work, tell me you arent going to get your work done faster, she giggled. Im smiling all the time here at work, and we all are most of the time because we genuinely have a good time.
The Huron store had first place, Jenson, third place in Skinner with 43 seconds, first place in the team competition, and, most impressive, all seven Huron store participants finished in under one minute, earning a $50 bonus. Huron also won multiple awards as the top store in sales through the Taco Johns phone app and in the loyalty program.
Jenson is very proud to show her trophy, so stop by Taco Johns and shell be glad to show it off!
