HURON Bulls and broncos will be on hand to usher out 2024 on Dec. 31 at the DEX on the South Dakota State Fairgounds.
Thirty-six competitors will matched up against animals athletes provided by two of the areas top rodeo stock contractors during the Bucking Good Time event. A total of $5,000 in prize money has been added to the pot in both the bull riding and saddle bronc.
We are hoping for a good crowd to come out and celebrate New Years Eve with us and watch a good show, said Leann Weischedel, who is one of the event organizers.
Providing animal athletes for the event will be Weischedel Bucking Bulls of Onida and Sutton Rodeo Broncs of Onida. Both have provided stock for some of the biggest rodeos around.
In fact, Weischedel had the Bull of the Year in the South Dakota Rodeo Association for 2024 with #601 Feathered Indian. Sutton Rodeos has won the PRCA Horse of the Year Award on three occasions.
Some of the area bull riders slated to compete, include Hunter Johnson of Kadoka, Dom Santiago of Chamberlain, Ryder Rowland of Ree Heights, Darin Styles of Wessington, Steven Garrigan of Pierre, Tanner Christian of Woonsocket and Tucker Merten of Veblen.
Competing in the saddle bronc portion of the event will by Kyle Hapney of Carthage, Grady Hemmingson of Bradley, John Thelen of Pierre, Clay Longbrake of Howes, Jade Blackwell of Rapid City, Andrew Shepherd of Watertown and Brady Hill of Onida.
In addition to the action in the arena, the event will be packed with several other entertainment acts.
A mechanical bull will be set up on site for fans to partake in.
Also included will be Crazy Cowgirl Trick Rider, Candice Aamot of De Smet, and a Kids Candy Scramble.
Funnyman, Jesse Larson of Duluth, Minn., will be providing crowd entertainment throughout the event. He will be joined by bull fighters Jacob Berg of Pierre and Andrew Coughlin of Spearfish.
Shaun Maher of Timber Lake will serve as the announcer.
The first scheduled event will be the Calcutta at 6:30 p.m. The 22 bull riders and 16 bronc riders will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
The action will begin immediately following the Calcutta.
The top four bull riders and top four saddle bronc riders will be brought back for a short round.
A dance featuring Weston Frank will follow the rodeo action at the Crossroads Hotel.
Tickets for the Bucking Good Time event can be purchased in advance for $17.50 at the Double D Western Stor in Huron or at the Bucking Good Time Facebook page.
Tickets will also be available at the door on the night of the event for $20.
Kids age 6 and under will be admitted free.
