WESSINGTON Evelyn (Evie) Faye Moller, age 93, of Wessington, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2024 from complication following a fall at Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket.
Her memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron.
Visitation, with her family present, will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday, Jan. 4.
Evelyn Chercus was born Nov. 8, 1931, in Hand County, Rose Hill Township to Alex and Alice (Metschke) Chercus. She lived nearly all her life on a ranch southwest of Wessington.
Evie married Gene Moller April 8,1951. To this union, six children were born. Evie was an outdoor gal who liked working with animals and gardening. She had many beautiful flower gardens and spent numerous hours tending to them. Evie also enjoyed bird watching and often had her bird book out to help her identify the birds that came to the feeders outside her window. Evie enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and sewing. She made numerous quilts for her family. She enjoyed teaching her family the art of knitting, crocheting, and quilting as well.
Evie worked as a substitute teacher in Hand and Beadle counties for 10 years. She then worked at the Good Samaritan Center in Miller for 10 years. A job she loved.
Due to a back injury, she then worked at the Wessington School as a paraprofessional, for 10 years, which was another joy added to her life. She served as Rose Hill Township treasurer for many years and was a member of the first Presbyterian Church in Wessington.
Evie enjoyed taking back roads when traveling. New routes were often discovered when going to Sioux Falls or Pierre or even just driving around home looking at what was happening around the neighborhood with her daughter Lori and son-in-law Leon.
Grateful for having shared her life are children: Lynn (Peggy) Moller, Randy (Rose Nelson) Moller, Brenda (Eldon) Broer, Lee Moller, Lori Moller Boomsma; four grandchildren: Kristi Broer and Veronica Wesseling, Jordan Boomsma (Taylor Larson), and Evelyn (Annie) Boomsma (Lane Christensen); five great-grandchildren: George Broer, Corbyn Broer, Wyatt Roberts, Bryce Wesseling; and Sierra Wesseling; and a sister, Sonya McDonald.
Evie is preceded in death by her husband, Gene, infant daughter Christy, brother Lloyd Chercus, sister Edna Sturges; parents Alex and Alice Chercus; father-in-law and mother-in-law Ed and Alma Moller; son-in-law, Leon Boomsma.
Evie was a strong, independent woman who loved to share her knowledge and loved her family. She will be missed greatly.
