De Smet inks win against Chester

BROOKINGS De Smet earned its second win of the season with a 56-43 victory against Chester on Saturday at the Entringer Classi in Brookings.

The Bulldogs outscored Chester 19-9 in the second quarter to build a 30-16 lead at the half.

De Smet led 46-30 heading into the final quarter.

Grant Wilkinson had 17 points to lead three players in double figures for the Bulldogs, who improved to 2-1. Noah Luethmers had 11 points, while Slayten Wilkinson and Samuel Gigov added 10 and nine points, respectively.

Grant Wilkinson also had 19 rebounds for De Smet. Luethmers and Gigov each hand three assists.

Jaxton Ophdahl and Layke Wold had 13 and 12 points, respectively, to lead Chester, which is now 0-5.

JD Prorok had 10 rebounds for the Flyers.

De Smet will host Dell Rapids St. Mary on Thursday. Chester travels to play Deubrook Area on Friday.
