PLANKINTON Sanborn Central/Woonsocket held on for a 54-51 victory against Mt. Vermon/Plankinton on Saturday.
The Lady Blackhawks, who improved to 3-2, built a 19-6 lead in the opening quarter. The two teams played fairly even through the second and third quarters before Mt. Vernon/Plankinton staged its comeback in the final quarter.
The Titans put up 20 points in the fourth quarter, but it wasnt enough to catch Sanborn Central/Woonsocket, which had nine in the final frame.
Liz Boschee had 16 points to lead three players in double figures for the Lady Blackhawks. Kaylie Robinson had 14 points, while Alexa Goertz had 13 points and Addi Bartholow added eight points.
Robinson also had team highs for SC/W with nine rebounds, four assists and five steals.
No statistics were available for Mt. Vernon/Plankinton.
The Lady Blackhawks return to action today with a game against Bridgewater-Emery in Forestburg.
Former Sanborn Central/Woonsocket standout Myah Selland will have her jersey retired during a ceremony before the game at approximately 6:15 p.m.
