Gross wins title for Tigers in Brandon

BRANDON Moses Gross won and individual championship at 150 pounds for Huron during the Dan Pansch Invitational on Saturday.

The Tigers, who had four place winners, were seventh as a team in the 11-team event with 62 points.

Aberdeen Central won the event wit 293, while Brandon Valley was second at 248.5.

Rounding out the top five were Norfolk (Neb.) at 218, OGorman at 176.5 and Cahmberlain at 116.

Gross, who improved to 5-0 used a pair of pins and a technical fall to claim the championship.

Gross opened with a pin in 40 seconds against Kane Murphy of Dell Rapids and then pinned Jack Nelson of Brandon Valley at 1:37 to reach the finals.

In the title match, Gross recorded a 19-3 tech fall in 5:32 against Owen Ward of Aberdeen Central.

Carter Nelson was third for the Tigers a 113. He recorded a 9-2 decision against Williams OConnor of OGorman in the third-place match.

Brady Meyer at 132 and Teagan Lien at 144 were both fifth for Huron.

Meyer closed the tournament with a pin in 44 seconds against Evan Jackman of Yankton.

Lien recorded a pin in 2:49 against Prestyn Haugen of Chamberlain to cap his tournament.
