WESSINGTON SPRINGS Donald Andersen, age 81, of Wessington Springs, passed away on Saturday, January 11, at Human Services Center in Yankton. His Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., on Monday, Jan. 20, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday afternoon. Inurnment will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Spring 2025.
Don Andersen was born on Feb. 12, 1943, in Mitchell, to parents Carl, Jr. and Agnes (Aalbu) Andersen. He married Marcella Westlake on July 3, 1964. To this union, three children were born, Curtis, Lori, and Chad.
Don enjoyed reading, golf, and giving gum to the kids at the colony. He also spent many years helping with Relay for Life. He worked 20 years with Standard Nutrition Livestock Feed. Being a salesman was his passion, and he loved working with people.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years; children, Curtis (Nancy) of Colton, Lori (Chad) Viereck of Canistota, and Chad (Jen) of Wakonda; grandchildren, Devin of Sioux Falls, Kayla (Steven) Leggett of North Carolina, and Caitlyn and Mia of Vermillion; his brother, Roger (Sandy) of Rapid City, cousins Mary (Roger) Thompson of Wessington Springs and Steve (Jane) Aalbu of Spearfish; sister-in-law, Joanne Andersen of Watertown; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; his brother Arne in 1988; aunts, uncles, and cousins.
