LINCOLN, Neb. Mary Elizabeth Betty (Booker) Nielsen, 90, of Lincoln, Neb. and formerly of Huron, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2025.
She was born May 25, 1934. Betty spent her life serving others first in her dads hardware store, then as a speech therapist, and especially as a wonderful mom, caregiver, grandma, and community and church volunteer.
Betty graduated from Neche High School, the University of North Dakota, and Northwestern University. In 1959, she married Paul Nielsen and together they had three children. They lived in Milwaukee, Wis. and Huron, South Dakota before moving to Lincoln in 1977.
Survivors include son John (Sharon) Nielsen; daughters Jeanne Nielsen and Barb (Nolan) Schmit; grandchildren Beth Nielsen, Paul Nielsen, Madeline Schmit (Ellen Schnacker), Katherine Schmit, and Peter Schmit; and sister-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Preceded in death by husband Paul, parents John and Pauline Booker, and brother Bob Booker.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, January 8; gathering with family present was Tuesday, January 7 both at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Lincoln.
