To the editor:
Our libraries and public television are essential to the existence of a democratic society. Andrew Carnegie wrote, A library outranks any other one thing a community can do to benefit its people. Benjamin Franklin wrote that public libraries are essential to American education and democracy.
We need lawmakers in Pierre to support them fully. Funding libraries and public television is money well spent and indicate where we place our values. J.E. Durham wrote the following which sums up what a library is to the individuals who patronize it:
Sure, I go to the library for books, but also sometimes I go just to exist in a space thats welcoming, organized, comfortable, judgment-free, and run by knowledgeable, helpful, passionate people….
Hurons library is such a place, and it is so much more than books. Check it out….and maybe check out a book, too.
