To the editor:
I see where Trump pardoned all the people convicted of the insurrection on our Capitol. He called them patriots, but I and most of America would call them what they were – criminals who tried to overthrow our democracy.
What is most concerning is the Republican Congress, including our delegation of Johnson, Rounds, and Thune, have not commented about the pardons. If Republicans are looking forward and not back, as Thune says, why will they form another committee to investigate Jan. 6?
Apparently, what they would like us to believe is what we saw on Jan. 6 was an optical illusion. If you are to believe Trump, he said it was a love fest, not an insurrection that was visible for all to see.
S.D. is going to spend over $800 million on our new prison. If you follow Trumps logic, all prisoners would have to do is swear loyalty to Trump and he would pardon them.
We wouldnt need a new prison.
If the American people dont think Trump wants to be a dictator, look at what he wants to do. He talks about destroying the free press. He wants to take over Greenland, the Panama Canal, and Canada.
If you read how Hitler took over Germany, you will find that is exactly what Hitler did in 1933. At that time, Germany had a crisis in the economy, politics, and society, and Hitler played on it as Trump is now doing.
Even though Trump told the people what he was going to do and now is changing his story because a lot of what he said is unworkable, they still believe in what he said because it will be someone elses fight, not Trumps.
Even Musk believes Trump should be like Hitler when he gave the Hitler salute on stage.
