Huron gymnasts finish sixth at state qualifying meet

SIOUX FALLS The Huron gymnastics closed the regular season finishing sixth at the State Qualifier Meet on Saturday at the Sioux Falls Lincoln gym.

Watertown won the 7-team event with a score of 144.95, while Pierre was second at 139.675. OGorman was third at 138.475, followed by Yankton at 136.125 and Sioux Falls Jefferson at 135.550.

Huron finished with a score of 126.050 and Sioux Falls Washington rounded out the field at 60.225.

Ellie Puterbaugh had the highest finish for the Tigers. She turned in an 8.500 to finish tied for 12th on the beam.

Puterbaugh also led Huron in floor exercise with an 8.750 to share the 20th spot. She was the top finisher for the Tigers in the all-around with a score of 32.825 to finish 14th.

Alivia Cunard led Huron on the vault with an 8.475 to finish 24th. Maiya Hein and Maria Wilson turned in scores of 7.250 to share the 28th spot for the Tigers on the bards.

The gymnastics season will close on Friday and Saturday with the Class AA State Meet in Watertown.
