PIERRE The Huron Tigers trailed after one quarter, but took control in the second half and hit free throws in the end to seal a 60-50 victory over the Pierre Governors in Pierre Tuesday.
Huron dominated in the second and third quarters, outscoring the Governors 32-18 to carry a 13-point lead into the final frame.
The Governors would cut the lead into single digits, but Huron was able to get late free throws to seal the victory.
Blake Ellwein led the way with 24 points for Huron, now 11-5.
Davis Chase added 17 points and had a team-high nine rebounds, while Myles Ellwein nailed three long balls to add nine points.
The Governors (5-9) were led by Lincoln Dilges with 21 points.
Luke Olsen added nine points.
Dawsen Getz and Eladio Simental each had eight for Pierre.
The Tigers return to action Friday, when they host Aberdeen Central at 7 p.m. at Huron Arena.
