Sah wins Region 3 title for Tigers

ABERDEEN The Pierre Governors cruised to a team title in the Region 3 girls wrestling tournament Thursday, held in Aberdeen.

Pierre totaled 225.5 points as a team to out-distance Aberdeen Central, who scored 172.5. Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon finished third with 147 points.

Miller/Highmore-Harrold placed fifth with 88 team points, while Huron scored 63.5 team points to place sixth. Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/Wolsey-Wessington tallied 40 team points to come in eighth.

Chalie Sah headlined the Huron girls performance Thursday, winning the 107-pound weight class with a technical fall at six minutes. Reva McGaugh finished third at 114 pounds to qualify as well.

Not making the state tournament but placing for Huron was Moo B Say, taking sixth at 120 pounds, and Paola Fernandez Fernandez, who finished fifth at 165 pounds.

Qualifying for the state meet for the Bandits was Hailey Schafer (fourth, 100 pounds), Dana Wallace (second, 120), Gabby Werdel (fourth, 138), and Kyler Foreman (third, 152).

The Warhawks were led by Bailey Yost, who finished second at 114 pounds among state qualifiers. Camille Rearick finished third for WS/W/WW at 138 pounds.

The state wrestling meet is scheduled for Feb. 27 through March 1 in Rapid City.

Cyclones finish third in Region 1
CLARK The Clark/Willow Lake Cyclones girls wrestling team finished third in team scoring in the Region 1 girls wrestling tournament Thursday held in Clark.

Watertown took the team title with 133 points. Brookings finished second at 92, with Clark/Willow Lake (73) winning a tight battle with Sioux Falls Jefferson (70) for third place.

Other Heartland schools participating in the Region 2 meet were Kingsbury County (42.5 team points) and Doland (42). Redfield participated but did not score a team point.

The first four places in each weight class qualify for the state tournament to be held Feb. 27 through March 1 at Summit Arena at The Monument in Rapid City.

Qualifying for the state tournament from Clark/Willow Lake were Kadee Frankfurth (third, 100 pounds), Hadley Gjerde (fourth, 114), Mia Homstrom (third, 126), and Chyanne Guerdet (third, 132).

Kyla Logan (second, 138) and Reganne Miles (first, 165) qualified for Doland for the state meet.

Jaidynn Giedd swept through the 152-pound weight class with a victory for Kingsbury County.
