EAGLE BUTTE Huron will be sending four wrestlers to the Class A State Tournament after the Region 3A Tournament on Saturday.
Aberdeen Central turned in a record score of 302 to win the Region 3A title, while Pierre was second at 225. Rounding out the top five were Madison at 212, Mitchell at 132 and Chamberlain at 128.5.
The Tigers were sixth in the 8-team event with 108 points.
Moses Gross won an individual championship for Huron at 150 pounds to reach the state tournament. After receiving a bye in the first round, he defeated Henry Meyer of Madison with a 21-6 technical fall in 1:53 and then won the title with a 20-3 tech fall against Owen Ward of Aberdeen in 4:00.
Carter Nelson also reached the championship match at 113 pounds for the Tigers.
Nelson needed just 38 seconds to pin Taycen Scott of Todd County in the opening round and reached the title match with a pin against Bode Minder of Pierre in 1:21.
Esten Foss of Aberdeen Central spoiled Nelsons bid for a championship with a 9-0 major decision.
Also qualifying for state for Huorn were Brady Meyer at 126 and Lucas Chaparro at 175, who were both third.
Meyer opened the tournament with a pin against Joey Franks of Pierre in 3:46, but suffered a loss by pin to Carson Wolf of Madison at 5:38 in the semifinals. He rebounded with a win by pin against Stratton VanOverscheide of Mitchell at 2:24 in the consolation semifinals to earn a state berth, before closing the tournament with a 16-0 tech fall against Franks in 4:12.
Chaparro received a bye for the Tigers in the opening round and was pinned by Chisum Blum of Chamberlain at 5:00 in the semifinals. He then edged Sam Larson of Pierre 11-9 in the semifinals to earn a state berth, before closing the tournament with a pin against Adam Willis of Madison in 44 seconds.
Narrowly missing clinching a spot in the state tournament for Huron were Emrick DeDeyne at 106, Alec Pester at 120 and Crayton Siedschlag, who were all fifth. Teagan Lien at 144 and TJ Lien at 157 were both sixth.
The Class A State Tournament begins Thursday and concludes Saturday at the Monument in Rapid City.
