HURON With a chance to win the Eastern South Dakota conference title with a victory, the fourth-ranked Brandon Valley Lynx took away those hopes from the Huron Tigers with a 21-9 third quarter on the way to a 58-44 victory Friday at Huron Arena.
Huron opened up senior night with senior Bubba Peterson connecting from deep for the first points of the game. Austin Dowd responded with a strong post move for Brandon Valley, but Peterson responded with another three to make it 6-2 Huron early.

Lincoln McInerney nailed a three for Brandon Valley, but Trace Wenz responded with a deep ball of his own.
Dulaney had a transition layup for the Lynx. Peterson was fouled, but could only sink one of two free throws. Zerr then shook free for a short jumper.
Ellwein hit a three to bring the score to 27-24. Zerr got another bucket behind the Tiger defense but Ty Kleinsasser then took the ball and streaked down the court for a layup at the halftime buzzer to send the teams to the locker rooms with Brandon Valley up 29-26.
The Lynx came out firing in the third quarter while Huron simply couldnt find the bottom of the basket.
Mayen got a short jumper in the middle of the Tiger zone to open the second half, then after a pair of quick fouls on Peterson, he said something to earn a technical foul. Dulaney hit one of two free technical free throws, but on the ensuing possession, Mayen hit a lob shot over Ellwein. The next trip down the court, Briggs Knutson hit a free throw line jumper.

Chase got one of two free throws and then hit a three to bring Huron within 50-39, but thats as close as Huron would be the rest of the way.
Mayen would hit a three, Grant Hennen hit a jumper, and Gus Scott came off the bench for a three. At that point, both coaches emptied the benches, and the Lynx wrapped up a 58-44 victory.
Tiger coach Tim Buddenhagen was obviously disappointed, not to mention perplexed by his teams lack of energy on the night.
We just didnt have an answer. We are totally disappointed, he lamented. We have a lot of soul searching to do over the weekend.
The Lynx move to 17-3 behind 16 points from Mayen and 14 points from Zerr. Dulaney added nine points and also grabbed eight rebounds.
Ellwein led the Tigers, now 14-6, with 14 points. Chase had 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds and blocked five shots.
Even in a tough loss, Buddenhagen was effusive in his praise for Chase.
About the only guy who showed up with any fire was Davis Chase. He was going to the rim on offense, he was scrambling for balls, blocking shots, Buddenhagen raved. If we could have had five of him, we could have done something tonight.
Huron will host a SoDak 16 game next Saturday.
