Kids Korner
(Birth Grade 3):
Join Us for Seussical Fun and More at the Library! March is National Reading Month, and the Kids Korner is celebrating in a big way with a variety of exciting events, from storytimes to crafts, Seuss-inspired snacks, and much more! Bring your little ones to enjoy all the fun and inspiring activities we have planned this month.
After the Bell Early Release: Seussical Celebration (1st3rd Grade) on Monday, March 5, from 1:30 to 3:15 p.m. Celebrate Dr. Seusss legacy with Seuss-inspired snacks and Oobleck fun! Registration is required.
Storytimes (Second, Third, and Fourth Tuesdays in March)
Toddlers: 9:30 a.m.
Big Kids: 10 a.m.
Join us for engaging and interactive storytimes each week! Toddlers can enjoy fun, short stories, songs, and activities, while Big Kids will hear longer, more adventurous tales with a variety of creative activities.
Monthly Dino Day on Tuesday, March 25, 2 to 5:30 p.m. Get ready to dig into some prehistoric fun! Come explore dinosaurs through crafts, activities, and games. Perfect for young paleontologists and dino-lovers of all ages.
Special March Events:
Green Eggs and Ham Storytime on Friday, March 14, 10:30 a.m. Celebrate one of Dr. Seusss most famous books with a special Green Eggs and Ham storytime for all ages! Would you like some Green Eggs and Ham?
Mom and Me Craft: Spring Bunny Door Hanger (Registration opens March 8) on Saturday, March 29, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Celebrate the arrival of spring with a craft session for moms, grandmas, and kids! Well create adorable bunny door hanger dcor to welcome the season. Registration is limited and required.
We are excited to welcome families to the library throughout the month of March to celebrate reading, creativity, and fun. Whether youre crafting, exploring, or just reading, theres something for everyone!
Tweens and Teens (Grades 4 12):
The tween/teen section of the library is pleased to host an Escape Room experience: Down the Rabbit Hole. Scheduled for March 4 and 6 from 4 to 5 p.m.
You are in the library browsing for your next read when you notice a small white rabbit following you everywhere you go. Where did it come from? You try to touch it, but it runs away. You follow it behind some bushes, but it hides in a small hole in the ground. As you look closer, you are absorbed down the rabbit hole, floating in a whimsical world where cards and teapots are levitating around you. You find a small tunnel, crawl inside, and find yourself at a tea party. Now, you must follow the clues to escape. Can you solve them or be stuck here forever?
Registration is required.
Adult Programs:
Online Lecture: Blazing a Trail to Congress Historic Firsts for Women on March 10 at noon. Join us for a free, one-hour online lecture and Q&A presented by Road Scholar. Discover the inspiring stories of trailblazing women who achieved historic firsts in the U.S. Congress, including Jeannette Rankin, the first woman elected to Congress; Margaret Chase Smith, the first woman to serve in both the House and Senate; Patsy Takemoto Mink, the first woman of color in Congress; and Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to Congress. Dont miss this opportunity to celebrate these pioneering leaders and their lasting impact on American history!
Coffee Chat Series:
March 11 at 6:30 p.m.: Brad Letcher, P.E., Huron Area Engineer for the South Dakota Department of Transportation, will discuss the reconstruction project on Dakota Avenue, along with other upcoming projects in the area.
March 25 at 6:30 p.m.: Ryan Maxted, Branch Manager at BMO Bank, will lead a discussion on fraud and scamming, sharing helpful information on how to protect yourself from scams.
Strengthening Our Democracy by Remembering History: Shining a Spotlight on the Ku Klux Klan in South Dakota on March 18 at 6 p.m. Join us for a compelling presentation exposing the presence of the Ku Klux Klan in South Dakota during the 1920s and its lingering impact today.
Learn how the KKK infiltrated communities across the state, from the murder of a Catholic priest in Lead to recruitment efforts at the Homestake Gold Mine, and the white supremacist ties of Gutzon Borglum.
This thought-provoking discussion contrasts the Klans influence with the ideals of democracy equality, diversity, and freedom for all. Presented by Arley Fadness of Sioux Falls and sponsored by the South Dakota Humanities Council.
