Deubrook Area 65, Wessington Springs 49
HURON The Deubrook Area Dolphins used a big run at the end of the third quarter to take back the lead and earn a 65-49 victory over the Wessington Springs Lady Spartans in Region 2B action at Huron Arena Thursday.

The Dolphins came out with a dominant press, earning multiple turnovers by the Spartans and jumping out to a 16-5 lead at the end of the first period.

The outside shooting got going for the Spartans coming out of the break, and they began to consistently break the Deubrook press, resulting in a long run. Springs outscored the Dolphins 20-14 in the second quarter to come within three at 28-25 at half.

Mariah Messmer scored the first four points of the second half to give the Spartans their first lead of the game. They would extend that lead to 30-28, but thats when the Dolphins began to connect from the outside, and that opened up things inside for Mataya Gouws underneath for Deubrook. The combination began a long run that lasted into the early fourth quarter when a significant deficit and two players fouling out led to the Lady Spartans bringing in reserves and Deubrook Area finished out the 65-49 victory.

The Dolphins move to 17-5 behind 18 points apiece from Kylee Johnson and Gouws. Matte Bauman added 11 points.

Gouws hauled in 11 rebounds for Deubrook.

Wessington Springs finishes the year 10-12. Messmer scored 15 points and Ashlyn Weber added 11 for the Lady Spartans. Kerstynn Heim pulled down six rebounds before fouling out and Kaitlyn Braun also secured six boards.

The Dolphins advance to the SoDak 16 next Thursday.
