RAPID CITY Moses Gross capped his incredible Huron Tiger wrestling career with his third state championship Saturday in Rapid City.
Gross dominated his way to victory, finishing the year at 29-0, closing out his career with a pair of pinfalls in the first two rounds before finishing with a technical fall in the semifinals and in the finals.
His finals match against Michael Roob of Vermillion was never truly in doubt, as Gross recorded the tech fall victory 21-5 at the 3:58 mark of the 150-pound championship match.
His work earned him the Most Outstanding Wrestler award at this years state wrestling tournament for Class A.
In his Tiger career, Gross qualified for the state meet six times, won the region championship five times, and finished his season in the championship match four times.
Gross joins Brad Robinson (1984, 1985, 1986) and Dale Westburg (1978, 1979, 1981) as three-time winners in Huron wrestling history. Dustin Walraven (2004, 2006, 2007, 2008) is the lone Tiger wrestler to win four titles.
(Moses) has been wrestling with confidence throughout the whole season, Huron coach Matt Goth stated.
Moses has been a great example of sportsmanship and determination throughout his career and he will be missed in the future.
Gross becomes the fourth Tiger wrestler to win the outstanding wrestler award, joining Westburg, Walraven, and Ryan OConner.
