Raiders roll over Tigers in SoDak

RAPID CITY A 31-5 second quarter for the Rapid City Stevens Raiders put the game completely out of reach, and they would defeat the Huron Tigers 76-35 in Class AA SoDak 16 action Friday in Rapid City.

Huron came out playing like they had nothing to lose, as Aly Davis took a pass from Allison Janes for a bucket and the first lead of the game. Stevens All-Stater Taaliyah Porter got a layup as the Raiders broke the press to tie the game.

Janes would get fouled and hit two free throws to give Huron a 4-2 lead. It would be their last lead.

Halle Peterson cut backdoor for Stevens for a bucket and MacKenzie Schreiber cut through the Huron defense for a bucket to give Stevens their first edge, 6-4.

The teams exchanged press break layups by Finley Love for the Raiders and Davis for Huron, then Porter sealed off the Huron defender in the post for an easy bucket.

Hylton Heinz drove hard to the hoop for a bucket, but Jessa Griswold answered with a three. Stevens seventh-grader Marley Seumanutafu was fouled on a putback attempt and made one of two to push the lead out to 17-8.

The running clock sped through the rest of the game. The Raiders emptied the bench with six minutes left, and Huron did the same after getting two points for each of the seniors on the roster, Janes and Madison Jurgens. When the final buzzer sounded, Stevens had a 78-35 victory.

There wasnt really a big mystery for Tigers coach Kody Kopfmann when he reflected on the final game of the season.

We struggled breaking their press and they couldnt miss a shot, he observed. They took open shots and they made open shots.
