Yard waste collection to begin

HURON During the public forum portion of Mondays Huron City Commission meeting, Commissioner Rich Bragg stated that due to numerous inquiries, the Solid Waste Department set a schedule for yard waste bin pickup. The green bins are scheduled during the month of April to be picked up on Wednesdays. Beginning the week of May 5-9, yard waste collection will move to trash and recycling pickup day.

Commissioner Bryan Smith reminded the public about the City Commission election on April 8 at the Huron Arena from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Smith also reminded voters that absentee voting began Monday, March 24. Voters who wish to vote absentee can do so at the city finance office during normal business hours.

Assistant Engineer Dennis Bennett presented a bid for 2025 asphalt crack sealing by Lot Pros Inc. as the low bid on the citys specifications. Lot Pros bid $60,874.10, which was roughly one percent below the $68,164 budget for the project. This was approved.

Bennett also explained the bid process for city hayland. City hayland leases went out for bid in late January and were opened on Feb. 11 with only one parcel bid. Bid laws allow for the city to approach previous lessees and offer the land back to them, and they set up new contracts with the city. These 2025 leases were approved by the commission.
