HURON Eleven teams from the Huron School District competed in the Eastern Regional Destination Imagination competition held March 22 in Webster.
The Flower Girl Team presenting a performance on a change in weather conditions includes Margo Wachter, Blayke Smith, Addisyn Goth and Ashlee DeVries. They were coached by Callee Bauman Wachter and Kahlie Smith.
In the elementary division the Legendary Rainbow Kittens competed and placed third in the Fine Arts Challenge. Team Members were Lorelei Quillen, Lenora Dunn, Lilly Ann Knouse, Lina Well, Leilani Amaya, Kali Authier & Soren Shkuratoff. They were coached by Dasia Tolsma and Sarah Dunn.
The Wrestling Space Cheetahs presented a performance on the scientific phenomena on Mars and received first place in the science division along with a special award for innovation and technical design of the four volcanoes they built for their performance and presentation. Team members are Blakely Briley, Nylah Perez, Evangeline Wachter and Janae Smith. Coaches are Callee Bauman Wachter and Kahlie Smith.
The Tiger Dogs including team members Eli Fergen, Mariluna Sandate, Cadee Dawkins and Sky Sandate competed in the Improvisational Division. They received second in the region. They are coached by Audra Fergen.
The Technical Team in the Elementary Division is coached by Ashley Doll and Ashley Kestersen. The team members are Hadley Alves, America Lopez,and Keagan Kestersen. They placed first in the technical challenge.
The elementary engineering team placed first. Team members are Georgia Wachter, Calvin Brace, Kiersten Mittelstedt, Michael Le, Kathryn Schumacher, Luxanna Metter and Avery Carr and are coached by Callee Bauman Wachter.
In the Middle School Division team T-DA coached by Kris and Mackenzie Lavallee placed first in their Improvisational division. Team members are Thanh Truong, Ashtyn Pedersen, and Deacon Lavallee.
The Fine Arts Team coached by Stephanie Mehling took home first in their division. The team name is the Heart Stoppers and members are Maleya Moser, Ella Dawkins, Colby Casper, Mara Pell, and Sophie Mehling.
The Middle School Science Team, the Flaming Skeletons, placed first in their division. They are coached by Kyleand Sarah Dunn. Team members include Jade Dunn, Logan Authier, and Kayleen Knouse.
In the High School Division Team Wondertime competed in Engineering. Team members Amayar Zaw and Michelle Le placed first. They are coached by Mai Nguyen.
The Technical Team coached by Kathy Micheel and Angie Rans placed first. Their team name is the Final 3 and comprised of members Mylie Byrd, Tucker Micheel and Leo Schumacher.
All elementary, middle and high school teams will proceed to the State Tournament to be held April 5 in Pierre. The first place teams at the state competition will represent South Dakota in the Global Competition this May in Kansas City, Mo.
