Huron participates in Legion Relays

PIERRE Sioux Falls Lincoln took the girls team title and Brandon Valley won the boys title at the Legion Relays at Phil Trautner Stadium in Pierre.

Hurons boys finished with six team points and the girls finished with four.

Placing for the Huron boys was Shawn Messimore, who took seventh in the 400-meter dash, and Jeremy Hofer, who took third in javelin.

For the Huron girls, Hylton Heinz placed fourth in javelin while Maggie Storm placed eighth in the same event.

Spartans, Warbirds, Blackhawks participate in Greenway Relays
MT VERNON Ethan/Parkston nearly had a sweep of the boys and girls team titles, running away with the boys title but coming in second to Burke in the girls competition in the Greenway Relays Friday in Mt. Vernon.

Wessington Springs boys finished eighth with 35.3 points and Wolsey-Wessington totaled 19 team points while Sanborn Central/Woonsocket had six points.

The Lady Warbirds finished seventh with 41 team points, while the Blackhawks had 37 points to finish ninth. Wessington Springs scored 18 team points.

Liz Boschee had a strong day for Sanborn Central/Woonsocket, taking first in javelin and high jump, third in the 100-meter hurdles, and seventh in the 300-meter hurdles. Alexa Goertz placed seventh in the 100-meter hurdles and eighth in the 300-meter hurdles for SC/W while Lainey Goertz was sixth in the 100-meter hurdles. The Blackhawk girls finished sixth in the 4×800 relay.

Kendal Uttecht paced the Lady Warbirds with a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash and a third place finish in the 800-meter. Kenli Hooks finished seventh in the shot and eighth in the discus while Tatum Luce was second in the high jump and fourth in the long jump. Preslie Jensen took sixth in the 400-meter dash. The Lady Birds finished seventh in the 4×100 and 4×400 relays and eighth in the 4×800.

The Lady Spartans finished fifth in the 4×200 relay.

For the Wessington Springs boys, Richard Cardona took second in the 800-meter run while Carson Finn finished just behind him in third. Ryder Michalek tied for second in the high jump. The Spartan boys won the 4×800 relay.

Jackson Wolter led the Blackhawks with a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter run and took eighth in the 1600-meter. Tyson Eddy finished eighth in the 300-meter hurdles.

Colin Hughes was the lone Warbird with two places, taking third in shot and seventh in discus. Lucas Bureau finished third in the 300-meter hurdles for Wolsey-Wessington while Sawyer Nelson took eighth in javelin. The Warbird team took eighth in the 4×100 relay and sixth in the 4×400 relay.

Warbirds, Patriots participate in Monarch Field Only Meet
WARNER The Wolsey-Wessington Warbirds and Hitchcock-Tulare Patriots competed in a wet field events only meet on Thursday in Warner.

Rebecca Huizenga of Hitchcock-Tulare took first in the shot put with a toss of 35-9. Kenli Hooks finished eighth at 30-3.

The Lady Birds had a pair of throwers place in discus, as Payton Peterson took third with a throw of 91-2 and Hooks threw 87-9.5 for sixth.

Colin Hughes was the only local placer in the boys shot, taking fifth with a toss of 41-3. He finished third in the discus with a heave of 125-10.5. Dalton Rathjen threw 123-6 in the discus for sixth.

The Patriots place five between the boys and girls javelin. Lila Jo Johnson and Ella Johnson took third and fourth with Keilee Schone in seventh in the girls event while Patrick Maynard and Neil Salmen finished second in third in the boys javelin.

Wolsey-Wessington had four place-winners in girls high jump, with Tatum Luce clearing 4-9 to win the event. Samara Clemente (fourth), Lily Hoverson (fifth), and Abby Huntsinger (tied-sixth) also placed. Hughes and Josiah Malone tied for fourth for the Warbirds.

Luce placed seventh in girls pole vault, while Carson Walters tied for third and Isaiah Noyes took sixth for Wolsey-Wessington. Tristan Nowell finished tied for eighth for Hitchcock-Tulare.

The Patriots had two champions in the long jump as Emma Schneider took first in the girls event, and Logan LaBrie took first in the boys. Penuel Richmond was sixth and Josiah Malone tied for eighth in the boys event for the Warbirds.

LaBrie took third in the boys triple jump, while W-Ws Clemente had a personal best 34-0.5 but came in second. H-Ts Schneider took fourth for the girls.
