Mid Dakota scholarships awarded to students

HURON The board of directors of the Mid-Dakota Rural Water System is pleased to announce that four students have been chosen to receive a scholarship of $750 each.

The very deserving individuals are Grace Hanten, the daughter of Robert and Kay Hanten from the rural area near Pierre; Morgan Kolda, the daughter of Dean and Rema Kolda from St. Lawrence; Maddie Jurgens, the daughter of Dan and Kristen Jurgens from Alpena; and Sheridan Voorhees, the daughter of Pat and Tacea Voorhees from Onida.

Grace is planning to attend University of South Dakota to pursue a career in Health Sciences to become a Physician Assistant.

Morgan plans to attend Lake Area Technical College to pursue a career in Surgical Technology.

Maddie plans to attend University of South Dakota to pursue a career as a Physician Assistant.

Sheridan is planning to attend South Dakota State University for a career in Attorney/Law.

The board of directors voted in the fall of 2005 to implement a scholarship program which would award a $750 scholarship to four successful applicants.

To qualify, a student must be attending a South Dakota Post-Secondary educational facility; have a grade point average of 2.8 or higher; and write a 250500-word essay on what rural water has meant to the applicant or his/her community. The student must either reside in a community that is a customer of Mid-Dakota or be a child of an individual customer ofMid-Dakota.
