HHS Personal Finance Students Focus on Real-Life Money Skills

Students in the Personal Finance class at Huron High School have been busy this semester diving into real-world financial skills that will benefit them long after graduation. Earlier this semester, the class tackled how to file income taxes, a practical lesson that gave students hands-on experience with W-2s, 1040s, and tax credits.

Currently, students are sharpening their personal budgeting skills. From creating their personal spending plans to understanding the difference between wants and needs, theyre learning how to manage money wisely and avoid common financial pitfalls.

The class has also been exploring the cost of higher education. Students are researching different ways to pay for college and technical schools, including scholarships, grants, work-study programs, and student loans.

Still to come this semester, students will take a deep dive into how insurance works from car and health insurance to renters and life insurance. Theyll also begin learning the basics of building wealth through saving, investing, and long-term financial planning.

The goal of the class is to help students feel confident and prepared to handle money decisions now and in the future. Its all part of making sure theyre ready for life after high school.
