Sorben inks top-20 finish tor Tigers at Yankton Invitational

YANKTON Aberdeen Central won its second golf tournament in as many days Friday.

After winning the Huron Invitational on Thursday, the Golden Eagles used a score of 319 to top the 12-team field at the Yankton Invitational on Friday at Fox Run Golf Course.

Rapid City Stevens was second at 326, followed by Sioux Falls Lincoln at 346. Rounding out the top five were Brandon Valley at 359 and Sioux Falls Jefferson at 365.

Huron had a pair of golfers at the tournament, but did not qualify for a team score.

Laure Knapp of Rapid City Stevens was the lone golfer to break par on Friday. She shot a 1-under 71 to win the medalist honors.

Emma Dohrer of Aberdeen Central was second at 72, while teammates Olivia Braun and Kyley Wirebaugh were third and fourth, respectively, with scores of 75 and 77.

Gabi Olson of Watertown rounded out the top five with a 78.

Huron eighth-grader Taylor Sorben claimed a share of the 20th spot in the 74-golfer field with a score of 91.

Paige Sherron, who was the other golfer in the event for the Tigers withdrew due to sickness.

Next up for Huron is the Mitchell Inivitational on May 16 at Lakeview Golf Course.
