Back by popular demand, Johnny Ray Gomez III will return to the De Smet Event Center stage on Sunday, May 18, at 3 p.m. Joining him are the talented Kevin and Heidi Cheng, delivering an afternoon with an array of delightful popular tunes and musical excellence. This concert marks the second performance of the 2025 season.
Continuing to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the De Smet Area Concert Series, this performance demonstrates the diversity of the musical genres that have been brought to you over the years through these concerts. Johnny Ray, known for his remarkable accordion skills and dynamic stage presence, will be joined by the Chengs a classically trained piano and violin duo.
Both the Chengs and Johnny have been wowing audiences across the Midwest for several years with their musical talent, humor and tremendous energy in their shows. Together, they bring a vibrant mix of musical styles to the stage. Dont let the words classical or accordion fool you this show promises an eclectic variety of music, including popular hits, country, ragtime, romantic, western, bluegrass, patriotic, contemporary, and traditional sacred selections.
Johnny Ray Gomez III grew up in a family rich with musical tradition and has carved out his own legacy as a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist.
Kevin and Heidi Cheng are a gifted, dynamic husband-and-wife duo known for their engaging and energetic performances. Kevin, a native of Taiwan, has organized large-scale orchestral concerts to bring classical music to rural Nebraska and has appeared as a guest pianist with the Lincoln, Kearney, Sandhills, and Cherokee symphonies. Heidi has served as second principal violinist for the Kearney Symphony Orchestra.
