SIOUX FALLS For the sixth time in the past seven years, the Huron boys tennis team won the Sportsmanship Award at the Class A State Tennis Tournament.
The Tigers were also able to move up a spot on the final day of competition on Tuesday to secure a fourth-place finish as a team.
Sioux Falls Christian pulled away to successfully defend its Class A championship from 2024.
The Chargers finished with 600 points, which put them will in front of runner-up Rapid City Christian, which had 390.5 points.
St. Thomas More was third in the 11-team event at 363, followed by Huron at 261 and Pierre at 244.5.
Aung Myit, who was won of two players for the Tigers to make it through the opening day unscathed, suffered a loss to the top seed in the sixth flight in the semifinals. He rebounded for an 8-5 win against Leyton Horning of St. Thomas More in the third-place match to claim the spot.
Htoo Say Zan, who was the other Huron player to advance to the semifinals in singles. Suffered a setback against the top seed in the third flight and was defeated by Tyason Hovden of Vermillion in the third-place match.
The Tigers had fourth players close the tournament with victories in their final matches. Finishing fifth were Matthew Thin at No. 1, Say Poe at No. 2, Maner Htoo at No. 4 and Ler Hai Moo at No. 5.
Moo combined with Ywa Hae Moo to claim the third spot in No. 3 doubles for Huron. The pair defeated St. Thomas More 8-6 on Tuesday in the third-place match.
Thin and Htoo were sixth for the Tigers at No. 1 doubles and Poe and Zan were sixth at No. 2 doubles.
