County pledges support for Hope House

HURON Gayle Stahl, executive director of Hope House, and Hope House board member Skip McWethy attended the Beadle County Commission meeting Tuesday morning to request funds for an additional full-time position with Hope House.

Stahl and McWethy shared the background of Hope House and some of the changing funding parameters for the organization with federal funding shifting and/or being cancelled. Stahl did relay that she was able to access state opioid funding with a support letter from the county previously, and the request she brought on Tuesday was to access the countys opioid settlement funds. Her request was approved.

The commission heard from highway department supervisor Jason Fritzsche to get an update on bridges and other structures within the county and their progress as spring shifts to summer. Fritzsche reported that the recent rain has made paving difficult, but it has allowed for pulling shoulders on some roads to go better.

The commission also approved two plats and a request to subdivide a parcel in the joint jurisdictional area. They also approved Dakota Pro Air to land on county roads if needed.

Three seasonal employees for the Dakotaland Museum were approved.

The next Beadle County Commission meeting is Tuesday, June 10, at 9 a.m., in the commission room on the second floor of the courthouse.
