Davis sets new javelin record for Huron at state meet

SIOUX FALLS Huron junior Alyse Davis closed the season with the best throw of her career in the javelin on Saturday at the Class AA State Meet.

Davis turned in a distance of 126 feet, 7 inches to finish second in the event and establish a new Huron High School record. Junior Hylton Heinz, who owned the previous school record, was seventh for the Tigers at 118-10.

Davis throw was just foot shy of the winning mark by Finley Langenfeld of Sioux Falls Lincoln.

The Patriots emerged as champions in both the Class AA girls and boys divisions on Saturday.

Lincoln amassed 97.5 points to claim the girls title, while Harrisburg was second at 90.5.

Rounding out the top five were Brandon Valley at 89, Rapid City Stevens at 70.5 and Pierre at 63.

Huron was 15th in the final girls standings with 15 points.

Lincoln escaped with the boys title by just a half a point. The Patriots finished at 120, while Brandon Valley had 119.5.

Rapid City Stevens was third at 80, followed by Harrisburg at 70.5. Sioux Falls Washington and Yankton shared the fifth spot with scores of 49.

Rustlers, Cyclones earn placings in A
SIOUX FALLS Junior Isaak Hunter of Miller placed in both the hurdle events, while sophomore Jakob Steen of Clark/Willow Lake was second in the javelin during the final day of the Class A State Track Meet on Saturday at Howard Wood Stadium.

Hunter turned in a time of 39.56 seconds to finish third in the 300-meter hurdles and was fourth in the 110 hurdles at 14.91.

Shane Veenhof of Madison won both hurdles events. He had winning times of 14.38 in the 110 and 38.52 in the 300.

Steen used a throw of 163 feet, 6 inches to claim the runner-up spot in the javelin for the Cyclones. Roland Sedlacek of Custer had a winning mark of 174-7.

Freshman Kamryn Nesheim was sixth for Clark/Willow Lake in the girls 1,600 run with a time of 5:10.69, while junior Cadence Bochek was seventh for the Cyclones in the girls 400 with a time of 1:01.15.

Sioux Falls Christian won both the boys and girls state titles in Class A.

In the boys division, Sioux Falls Christian had 95.5 points to hold off Lennox, which finished at 86. Hill City was third at 53, while Custer and Deuel shared the fourth spot with scores of 52.

Sioux Falls Christian cruised to the title in the girls division with 162 points. Custer was second at 90, followed by Lennox at 85, Dakota Valley at 61 and Elk Point-Jefferson at 50.

Area athletes finish strong in Class B
SIOUX FALLS Junior Hadlee Holt of Iroquois/Lake Preston led a trio of area athletes, who claimed placings in the girls shot put, on Saturday at the Class B State Track and Field Meet at Howard Wood Stadium.

Holt, who had the best qualifying throw, used a throw of 19-feet, 1-inch to finish third in the season-ending event. Paige Bull of Burke was the top thrower at 40-4.

Anna Arhart of Wessington Springs was fourth in the shot put at 37-3, while Rebecca Huizenga of Hitchcock-Tulare was eighth at 35-8.

Emma Schneider of Hitchcock-Tulare was third in the girls triple jump with a mark of 34-4, while Samara Clemente was fifth at 33-11.75.

Kendal Kolousek of Wessington Springs was fourth in the girls 400-meter race at 59.84 seconds, while Abby Hinman of Sunshine Bible Academy was seventh at 1:00.69.

Autumn Fallis of Highmore-Harrold was fourth in the girls 1,600 run at 5:26.83.

Charli McCune of De Smet was sixth in the 300 hurdles at 47.43 and seventh in the 100 hurdles at 16.00.

Sunshine Bible Academy was sixth in the Class B girls 800 relay at 1:48.36.

Bennett County won the Class B girls team title with 85 points, while Colman-Egan had 45.5 points to edge Burke by a half a point for the second spot.

Ipswich was fourth at 40 and Centerville and Kimball/White Lake shared the fifth spot at 37.

Wolsey-Wessington was 13th in the final girls standings with 22 points.

Hitchcock-Tulares Logan LaBrie was sixth in the Class B boys 100 and 200 races with times of 11.26 and 22.65, respectively.

Ganon Henrich of De Smet was seventh in the 100 at 11.40, while teammate Rogan Albrecht was eighth at 17.55.

Payton Chasing Hawk of Hitchcock-Tulare was fourth in the 300 hurdles at 41.94.

Sunshine Bible Academy was eighth in the boys 1,600 relay at 3:39.30.

Colman-Egan had 78 points to win the Class B boys title, while Philip was second at 74.5. Rounding out the top five were Gregory at 52, Ipswich at 45 and Bennett County at 39.
