Clark/Willow Lake boys second after first round in Class B

WATERTOWN Clark/Willow Lake sits just four strokes behind the leader after the opening day of the Class B State Boys Golf Tournament on Monday at Cattail Crossing Golf Course.

Hanson holds the top spot with a 9-over-par 225, while the Cyclones are second at 229.

Flandreau and Wall share the third spot with scores of 231, while Philip is fifth at 237.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket is tied for 11th at 245, while Miller is No. 13 at 247 and Wessington Springs shares the 14th spot with a score of 248.

De Smet and Doland recorded scores of 250 and 256, respectively, on the opening day of the two-day event.

Alfie Henderson of Flandreau turned in a 1-under-par 71 to lead after the first 18 holes on play on Monday. Wyatt Larson of McIntosh and Tannen Auch of Freeman share the second spot with scores of 72.

Gavin Colson of Sully Buttes and Will Jarding of Hanson, along with Kaden Wookey of Clark/Willow Lake and Kaiden Weinreis of Doland share the fourth spot with scores of 73.

Larz Tvedt of Wolsey-Wessington is tied for ninth with a 4, while Oliver Fritzsche of Miller is tied for 11th at 75 and Maxxon Kees of De Smet is tied for 14th with a 76.

Kooper Wookey of Clark/Willow Lake shot a 77 to share the 16th spot, while teammate Cade Gaikowski is tied for 26th with a 79.
McCoy Shulz is the top golfer for Sanborn Central/Woonsocket with an 80 to share spot No. 33.

Other area golfers in the tournament are JD Thompson of Wessington Springs (81); Sam Baruth of Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (81); Briggs LaBrie of Doland (82); Heyns Bathma of Wessington Springs (83); Luke Larson of Wessington Springs (84); Derek Brueggeman of Miller (84); Ethan Schmiedt of Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (84); Daniel Sudenga of De Smet (86); Blake Miller of Wessington Springs (87); Jorryn Heilman of Miller (88); Gradyn Henrich of De Smet (88); Carter Wilkinson of De Smet (89); Wyatt Schlagel of Clark/Willow Lake (92); Matthew Hofer of Doland (135) and Luke Norden of Miller (103).

The final round of the tournament will be held today.
