Post 7 picks up sweep over Smittys

HURON The Huron Post 7 ran its win streak to four games with a 4-1 and 18-8 sweep of the Aberdeen Smittys on Tuesday at Memorial Ballpark.

In the first game, Huron did all of its scoring in the first inning and made it stand up for the 4-1 victory.

Trace Wenz led off the first inning with a walk, and he then stole second. On a 2-2 count, Oakley Anderson hit a line drive over the center fielders head for a run-scoring triple and the first run of the ballgame.

Anderson Porisch followed with a single to score Anderson. Bubba Peterson and Cooper Bischoff each walked to load the bases, leading to an early pitching change for Aberdeen.

The change worked quickly as a pop out and a strikeout got Huron to two outs, but then Gavin Waldner slapped a single up the middle to score Porisch and Peterson.

Peterson earned the win on the mound with five innings of one-run ball on four hits and three walks. He struck out five. Brady Feenstra tossed two no-hit innings of relief, walking one and striking out one as well.

Anderson led the offense with a triple and a single. Porisch had a pair of singles and a stolen base. Wenz and Bischoff each had a single and a walk. Waldner and Wenz added stolen bases.

In the nightcap, Huron scored early and often in an 18-8 victory.

Post 7 would put up three runs in the bottom of the first to take a 3-1 lead, then after Aberdeen scored four in the top of the second, Huron matched the tally in the bottom of the inning, making it 7-5.
Aberdeen would again take the lead in the top of the fourth, scoring three runs, but Huron would respond with its biggest run-scoring inning, crossing the plate six times to take a 13-8 lead. Post 7 would add on four more in the fifth and walk off with the run-rule victory in the bottom of the sixth.

Anderson opened the game on the mound, throwing two innings, allowing five runs on five hits and two walks. Feenstra came in relief and allowed three runs over two innings on three hits and two walks, striking out two. Tommie Martin finished out the game with two shutout innings, allowing one hit and striking out one.

The Huron offense put 26 men on base, led by four hits and three stolen bases from Wenz from the top of the order.

He had a triple and three singles. Porisch would have a triple, two singles, and a walk, and he also stole a base.

Peterson reached base five times, with two singles, two walks, and a hit-by-pitch. He stole a base. Bischoff had three singles and a stolen base.

Chase Schuchhardt and Waldner each had two singles. Logan Leyendecker had a pair of walks and a stolen base. Martin had a single, a walk, and was hit by a pitch.

Post 7 will take a 6-7 record into the Dakota Classic tournament this weekend, beginning today in Sioux Falls.

Huron 16U splits with Brookings
HURON Hurons teener 16U team split a pair of hot games Tuesday at Klock Field against the Brookings Bullets 16U.

The Bullets came out swinging in the opener, aided by some Huron errors, bringing an 11-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning.

Huron was able to scratch across a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning as Zach Scheer walked and stole second. Colt Culver walked and Scheer then stole third. After a pop out, Jackson Ford drove a single into center field to score Scheer and move Culver to second.

Culver then stole third and scored on an error on the play. Ford was caught stealing second and Huron struck out to end the inning.

Culver opened the game on the mound, going three innings, allowing seven runs, two earned, on eight hits and five walks, striking out two.
Josh Gilbert finished out the game, allowing five runs across the final three innings on eight hits and four walks while striking out three.

Parker Bischoff paced the Huron hitting attack with a triple, a single, a walk, and a stolen base. Scheer and Ford each had a single and a walk. Scheer added two stolen bases and Ford swiped one.

Culver and Korbin Brock also had stolen bases in the game.

The rough defense in the second game was on Brookings side of the ledger, and Huron took advantage to score in each inning before walking off with a 14-4 run-rule victory in the fifth inning.

Huron scored two in each of the first, second, and third innings before exploding for seven runs in the bottom of the third. After Brookings scored two in the top of the fifth, Huron got a single from Sean Janes, a double from Quincy Rashaad, and a single from Scheer to bring around Janes as the final run of the game.

Gavin Waldner started the game for Huron, going 3 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on two hits and five walks, striking out three. Scheer closed out the game, pitching the final 1 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out two.

The Huron offense had 16 hits on the game, led by Rashaad at the top of the order with a double, two singles, and a stolen base. Waldner also had three hits, all singles, and stole a base.

Bischoff had a pair of singles and stole three bases. Tyce Huber and Jaxon Greenfield each had a pair of singles.

Gilbert and Janes each had a walk and a single, with Gilbert adding a stolen base.

Huron (5-3) plays in the Yankton Junior Legion Tourney this weekend.
