Post 7, 16U participate to weekend tourneys

HURON Huron Post 7 Legion and the Huron 16U junior legion teams both participated in weekend tournaments recently.

Post 7 struggled on Friday and Saturday, but salvaged the weekend with a victory on Sunday at the Dakota Classic in Sioux Falls.

The first game Friday was against Lennox Post 174, a 4-0 loss for Post 7.

Emory Lefers of Lennox had the game on lockdown from the mound, tossing seven shutout innings and striking out seven along the way.

Jack Pedersen tossed a complete game for Post 7, going six innings, allowing four runs on nine hits and no walks. He struck out four.

The Huron offense was held to just seven base runners. Oakley Anderson was the lone Huron hitter to reach base twice, with a walk and a hit-by-pitch.

Bubba Peterson stole two bases and Pedersen swiped one in the loss.

A big four-run fifth inning propelled the Columbus, Neb. Cornerstone Post 84 to an 8-3 victory over Huron in their second game Friday.

Brady Feenstra took the loss on the mound, going five innings, allowing seven runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two. Tommie Martin pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief, allowing one run on one hit, adding two strikeouts. Logan Leyendecker got the final out for Huron.

Post 7 put 17 runners on base, with Anderson reaching base four times with a double, a walk, and two hit-by-pitches. Peterson and Leyendecker each had a pair of singles and a walk.

Cooper Bischoff had a pair of singles and Trace Wenz had a single and a walk.

A late rally came up short for Huron as they fell Saturday to Omaha Gross, 3-2.

Peterson opened the game on the mound, tossing five innings and allowing three runs, one earned. He allowed three hits and three walks while striking out four. Martin closed out the game with a scoreless inning of relief, allowing two hits and tallying a strikeout.

Anderson Porisch had a single and three walks to lead the Huron offense. Peterson had a double and a single.

Anderson had a pair of walks and Martin had a single and a walk. Wenz added a steal.

Sundays win over Chanhassen Senior Legion was a tale of two innings. Huron won 8-7, with 14 of the 15 runs in the game scored in the first and seventh innings.

After Chanhassen put up three runs in the opening half inning against Huron starter Anderson, Post 7 came out swinging, as Wenz singled to lead off the game, stole second, and then scored on a single by Anderson. Anderson stole second and then scored on a double by Peterson, with Peterson advancing to third on an error.

Peterson would score on a Chanhassen error on a ball by Bischoff. Bischoff stole second and then scored on an error on contact by Layne Wenzel to give Huron a 4-3 lead.

Huron would add a run on a Bischoff single in the fourth to take a 5-3 lead into the seventh inning. While not recording a single extra-base hit, Chanhassen put up four runs in the top of the seventh to take a 7-5 lead.

Huron quickly tied the game as Wenz singled, then stole second and advanced to third on an error. Anderson walked, and then a balk scored Wenz and moved Anderson to second. Porisch drove an opposite-field double to left to score Anderson.

It looked as Porisch may get stranded as the next two hitters hit into a fly out and a line out, but then Wenzel singled to left, scoring Porisch with the walk-off run.

Anderson collected himself after the first inning and threw 5 1/3 innings of 3-run ball, allowing eight hits and three walks while striking out six. Leyendecker finished out the game, allowing four runs over 1 2/3 innings on six hits and recording one strikeout.

Anderson had a single, a pair of walks, and a stolen base, scoring three of Hurons eight runs. Peterson and Feenstra each had a double and a single. Wenz had a pair of singles and two stolen bases.

Porisch had a double and Wenzel had a single and a walk. Bischoff swiped three bases.

Post 7 will take a 7-10 record into Fridays home doubleheader against Rapid City Post 320.

16U goes 1-3 in Yankton
YANKTON The Huron 16U team finished the weekend at the Yankton Junior Legion Tournament with a 1-3 record on the weekend.

The first game against Post 15 East Junior Legion was tight until Post 15 broke open the game, scoring seven runs over the final two innings for a 12-2 victory.

Parker Bischoff tossed five innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits and six walks, striking out one. Zach Scheer allowed five runs, two earned, over two innings of relief on one hit and five walks. He struck out four.

Scheer and Carter Porisch each had a pair of singles to lead the Huron offense. Porisch added a stolen base.

Leadoff hitter Gavin Waldner had a single, a walk, and a pair of stolen bases.

The second game on Friday was rough for Huron, as host Yankton took home an 11-0 run rule victory.

Scheer pitched all three innings, allowing 11 runs (only two earned) on six hits and two walks. He struck out four.

Huron had just four baserunners, with no hitter reaching base twice.

Huron got on the winning side on Saturday against Madison Post 25, coming back from an early deficit to win 8-5.

Nolan Stahly tossed seven innings, allowing five runs, two earned, on seven hits and a walk, striking out seven.

Joshua Gilbert had a single, a pair of walks, and stole three bases to lead the Huron offense. Korbin Brock and Sean Janes each had a single and a walk. Janes also stole a base.

Tyce Huber had a double and was hit by a pitch. Bischoff added a steal.

Huron then faced Post 15 West in their second game Saturday. Wests offense scored in every inning to claim a 14-4 victory.

Colt Culver took the loss as the starting pitcher. He threw four innings, allowing seven runs on six hits and six walks. Porisch threw 1 2/3 innings of relief, allowing seven runs on two hits and seven walks. Huber got the final out on the mound.

Porisch had Hurons only hit and stole a base. Gilbert, Brock, Jimmie Martin, and Jackson Ford would each record a stolen base.

Huron 16U falls to 6-6 on the season. They are next in action on Wednesday, hosting Mitchell.
