HURON The Mitchell Gold 16U used big innings to come away with a sweep of the Huron 16U squad on Wednesday at Memorial Ballpark.
In the opener, the visitors put up 10 runs before the home team pushed across its first run in a 14-6 victory.
Chase Schuchhardt opened the game on the mound, pitching one inning, allowing four runs on one hit and two walks while striking out one. Sean Janes completed the game in relief, allowing 10 runs on 10 hits and two walks, striking out one.
The Huron offense was able to get 15 runners on base, but only scored six of them. Janes led the way with a pair of singles, a walk, and a stolen base.
Jimmie Martin had a pair of singles and a stolen base, while Tyce Huber had a single and two walks.
Parker Bischoff had a single and a walk, and Korbin Brock had a pair of walks and a pair of steals. Joshua Gilbert added a stolen base.
Mitchell scored five, six, and then seven runs in the first three innings en route to a 19-8 victory in the nightcap.
Huber opened the game on the mound, but he only recorded one out before giving up five runs on six walks and a hit.
Martin came in relief and allowed 13 runs, seven earned, over 2 1/3 innings on six hits, five walks, and four strikeouts. Brock closed out the game with 2 1/3 innings pitched, allowing one runs on one hit and five walks, striking out three.
Bischoff had a pair of singles and a walk from the top of the order. Noah Koops walked three times.
Schuchhardt had a pair of singles. Ryker Shelton stole a base.
Huron falls to 6-8 and will next host Sioux Falls Post 15 for a doubleheader on Wednesday, June 25.
