Quilts of Valor presented Saturday

HURON The Huron Area Quilt Guild presented quilts of valor to eight veterans on Saturday at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church of Huron.

The Quilts of Valor program began in 2003. In May of this year, the organization distributed its 400,000th quilt to a veteran nationwide.

The eight honorees Saturday served from 1963 to 1989, with most of the honorees spending their active duty time serving during the Vietnam era. The eight honorees, listed alphabetically, were William Bartholow, Amy Ruth Cartney, Dick Decker, Richard Green, Stanley Hegg, Donald Kinsley, Leo Pollock and Lyle Williams.

Huron Area Quilt Guild members presented the quilts and provided refreshments for those in attendance. Despite the heat, the fellowship room was full of friends, family and those who wished to recognize the honorees.

Some of the quilts presented on Saturday were made by other Quilts of Valor member groups in Minnesota.
